How to Draw a Whale Tutorial

I found this simple whale drawing to work especially well with younger elementary students, as in kinder through 2nd grade. One of my favorite new media combinations is to have students trace their drawing with a Sharpie, add crayon patterns and decorations, and then cover all with liquid watercolor paint. I think you get definition of the shapes, along with pretty crayon resist patterns. You can download this tutorial lesson in pdf form HERE.

I love the new layout for your tutorial lessons! Thank you for sharing these! I use them to teach my kindergarteners how to draw because it builds their confidence and their journal writing improves so much. I plan to print all of the ones you have made in this format and put them in a binder for the students to use. They will love it and I will probably have to make several binders.

Your "How to draw" pages rock! My kindergartner has a deep love of drawing (and doing all sorts of art projects), but sadly her school does not have art due to budget cuts. They do have two different 1-hour sessions of music though; don't get me started. She will absolutely love doing these. Thank you!
