I wanted an overview of art elements and principles for my classroom, but didn’t really have an entire bulletin board to dedicate to it. I decided to make a concise list, with each word illustrating it’s meaning as best I could. I think this will be the best way to show students of all ages what each item means, no matter what their reading abilities are.

Thank you!
Thanks! Those rock.
Brilliant. I love and admire the work you do with kids.
These look great, but 6 of the words listed are actually principles, not elements. The elements are the basic building blocks; shape, line, color, texture, value, space, and form. The rest of the words are principles (rules for using elements well). The only missing principle here is proportion.
Thanks Kate, that serves me right for not double checking the website I got my info from. I'll have a fixed file up in a few minutes.
Note the spelling, too. :-) It's "principles", not "principals".

Thank you abelian, I thought I knew better than that. At least I was consistent. :) I think the file is good to go now.
Hooray for simple explanations
Thank you so much! I appreciate everything you share.
Love these, but I am not on facebook :o(
You don't need to be on Facebook to download these, just click on the image and follow directions from Scribd.
Hi Kathy,
I admire the prodigious amount of great work you turn out with your students and on this website. I also appreciate your sharing for free so much of what you do. One thing I quibble with is saying that certain downloads are "free" when indeed you must be a subscriber to Scribd to download those files. I love your simple explanation of Elements and Principles, but can't actually download it for free. Like I said, just a quibble, I do love your work!
