April Fool’s Eye Glasses

These glasses are pretty much guaranteed to create lots of giggles. Just be sure that children don't try to do much more than pose in them.
1. Follow this link (eyeglass template) to download a template I've posted for the glass frames. Print out copies on the heaviest paper stock available. Give each student a set and have them cut out all 3 pieces, including the inside of the frames. Tape sides to the front. The students decorate the frame with colored pencils or markers.
2. I found some stock photo images of eyes, and made lots of color copies for the students to pick from. Another option is to have realistic drawings of different eye shapes, and let the students choose and color their favorite. Or they could draw their own. Either way, the eyes and skin need to be colored, and then cut out and glued behind the eyeglass openings.
UPDATE: Thanks to my discovery of Scribd.com, I have posted a pdf of the eye photos I used HERE. If you don’t have a color printer, laser prints that are hand colored might work well too.

These are great! We made some similar glasses in our girl scout troop a few weeks ago - to wear at site sales. We glued pictures of different girl scout cookies to each side of the glasses, and cut small (1/2" - 1") holes in them so the girls could see. The Samoa cookie already had a hole in it! Kids love making glasses like this. Thanks for posting these!

Oh my gosh, I did this last year with my students, we walked around school with our glasses on. It was so funny! We giggled all day long!

My 4th graders had a blast with this project. Especially when their teacher came to get them and they were all sitting at heir tables looking at her with their crazy eyes! Hilarious!

My kids had a BLAST doing this art project! It was hard for me to get them back on task for the math lesson at the end of the day...but totally worth it! It was so fun to watch them giggle and I did my fair share of laughing also! :) Fabulous project!

I did this fun & silly project with my grade 2/3 class on April Fool's Day. The best part was when I realized how silly I sounded when I asked, "OK, who needs me to punch their eyes?" Of course, I meant with the hole puncher but we all had a good laugh about it!!
Thank-you for sharing all your wonderful ideas. You have transformed the teaching of art at my little school!
