I’m finding that I really like black Sharpies for tracing when it comes to painting with young students, like kinder and 1st grade. They just have a little trouble sometimes, tracing heavily enough with crayons to cover the pencil lines.
1. Draw in pencil a wide oval in the
middle of a 9" x 12" sheet of
watercolor paper. Six vertical lines are added as shown, which become the
three white stripes on the fish.
2. A tail is drawn and two sets of fins between the stripes.
3. The remaining face and side fin details are added.
4. Lots of tube-like sea plants may extend up from the bottom of the paper. Baby fish and princess crowns are optional.
5. The fish is traced with a black permanent marker and then painted with watercolors. My class used Dick Blick Liquid Watercolors and the bright colors really made them all turn out wonderfully.
